Hepatitis A is a vaccine-preventable disease.The vaccine is an inactivated vaccine containing viral antigens.
How old to you have to be to have the vaccine?
The vaccine can be given to those aged 1 years and over.
How long does immunity last for?
Provided you have a second dose within two years after the first dose you have lifelong immunity. However, if not then re-vaccination is required every 2 to 3 years.

Hepatitis A is a viral infection spread through contaminated food and water, so is usually associated with poor sanitation and hygiene. According to the World Health Organisation, there are an estimated 1.5 million new cases of each year, worldwide.
Infection is rarely fatal, with symptoms taking up to two weeks to develop. The severity of the symptoms can vary from mild to severe with signs and symptoms ranging from flu like symptoms such as fever and fatigue, as well as abdominal pain, nausea, loss of appetite and jaundice.

It occurs worldwide but most commonly found in areas of:
